Dr Sarela has trained in Bombay, London, Leeds and New York. He has been a consultant in minimally invasive bariatric (obesity) surgery at St. James’s University Hospital, Leeds, UK, and an honorary senior lecturer in the University of Leeds since 2003.

Dr Sarela now divides his time between the UK and Mumbai, where he runs the department of bariatric surgery at Hinduja Hospital in Mahim.

He is involved with several state-of-the-art, innovative technologies for the surgical treatment of diabetes and obesity. In addition, he has a committed interest in the ethics of surgical practice and empowerment of patients by provision of easily-understandable, detailed information and choice.

He has published extensively in the medical literature and lectured at meetings in the USA, UK and India. Dr Sarela is a gold-medalist from the University of Mumbai and has been listed in Marquis’ Who’s Who in Healthcare in the World since 2006.
